A Study of Expression
The project explores mark-making through unconventional tools to express spontaneous forms of abstract art. Black ink was applied using various objects such as fingers, broken wooden sticks, and textured fabrics. One particularly effective technique involved using cotton swabs to create ink impressions on paper. This method yielded compelling results, as the tool responded to pressure—delivering heavier strokes initially and gradually fading, adding depth and variation to the composition.
One of the resulting artworks was later adapted for silk screen printing. The design was manually transferred onto a 20” x 20” miller sheet, using the original sketch as a reference and replicating it with the same tool. The final screen prints featured variations in color and pigment types, adding richness and dimension to the work.
Screen printing on cotton fabric using pigments began with a single-color print, followed by a manual shift of the same screen to create a second layered impression.
